Academic support and dyslexia
What I can offer:

Supporting maths and English
“I’m no good at maths.”
“I can’t spell.”
“I have lots of ideas but I just can’t get them down on paper!”
We can all do maths and we can all get better at spelling, with the right support and encouragement. My role is to teach and motivate children to be the best mathematician / speller / story writer that they can be! After carrying out some simple assessments, I will devise a programme to fill gaps, consolidate the basics or address misconceptions as needed – all in a supportive and fun environment.

Coaching for independent/grammar school entrance
If you are considering a grammar/independent school for your child, it’s a good idea to have some coaching sessions to help prepare for the entrance exams or assessments. The exams do vary from school to school and I will ensure your child is prepared specifically for the schools/s you are considering. As well as covering the syllabus, we work on exam technique and how to manage nerves on the day.

Working with dyslexia
Dyslexia is a neurological difference which is estimated to affect around 10% of the UK population, some much more severely than others. However, it shouldn’t be a barrier to achievement, and when I work with a dyslexic student I focus on their self-esteem and motivation just as much as their literacy skills. As a qualified specialist dyslexia teacher I can assess your child in order to provide a tailored and structured teaching programme, which is both rigorous and fun – yes, we play games too!
Reviews
“We can highly recommend Alexa; she made the sessions enjoyable through a balance of academia and educational games which really prepared our son for the rigours of the school entrance exams, He passed the exams at the 3 schools he entered and received offers of a place from them all. A great all round experience.”

“I really enjoyed my sessions with Alexa. Even via Zoom during lockdown she managed to make the exercises fun and helped me think through my answers. I felt really ready to take my entrance exams.”

“Every dyslexic child should have a Mrs (Alexa) Sneath in their life!”

“I would highly recommend Alexa if you are considering a tutor for your children. She successfully prepared my daughter for a variety of school entrance exams using a mixture of fun methods to engage her and help her learn. Just as important as the academic skills she learnt was the building of confidence in herself to sit the exams and which she has taken forward into Year 7.”
